Posted on 16 October 2010

Authorities say a police officer responding to a shooting in a Detroit neighborhood has been bitten by a pit pull.

TV stations WXYZ, WDIV and WJBK report officers were called to the area Friday afternoon following reports of shooting involving young men on the street, and the officer was bitten while trying to track down suspects.

Authorities say the dog was fatally shot by police.

A message seeking information on the attack was left Friday evening with a Detroit police spokeswoman.
