A man who was hiding under a WaveRunner boat in the backyard on the run in Little Ferry was caught by a dog in New Jersey.
Bandit, a boxer owned by the Bergen County town’s police captain, smelled something fishy outside their home on Tuesday afternoon, said Capt. Ronald Klein.
“I hear him barking like crazy. I checked my backyard and I saw my guys running around looking for a guy. I found a foot sticking out underneath the WaveRunner. I held him down and my guys arrested him,” Klein said.
Byron Highsmith, 23, of Garfield had just burglarized a house on the other side of town, police said.
Police has issued warrant for Highsmith for his alleged involvement in a burglary.
“If it weren’t for stupid criminals there wouldn’t be smart cops,” Klein said.
Highsmith was taken to the Bergen County Jail.
Bandit has lived with Klein for seven years.
“He’s a good boy,” said Klein.
