Dog Owner Arrested With Over A Dozen Charges In Connection With Dog Attack

Posted on 19 October 2010

A man from Delaware in Ohio was arrested on Monday afternoon in connection with a dog attack earlier this month.

Virgil Mitchell III was arrested at about 1:30 p.m. by animal control officers.

The man is said to face over a dozen charges in connection with the Oct. 5 attack that took place near London Road and South Washington Street.

James Bright was attacked by four of Mitchell’s dogs.  Bright, who is 67, has had three surgeries, including skin grafts at Grant Medical Center in Columbus where he was hospitalized.  He was in fair condition on Monday.

Police tried to serve Mitchell a warrant last week but disappeared after pleading not guilty to misdemeanor charges.  He now faces a felony charge.

Court records showed that Mitchell was cited eight times from 2002-2008 for violations that included allowing his dogs to run at large and failing to immunize them for rabies.
