Health Department seeks dog to avoid risk of rabies infection

Health authority is on a lookout for a dog that nipped another male walking on the trail on Wednesday afternoon in Ithaca.

Tompkins County Health Department is requesting details of the biting incident occurred about 12:30 p.m. on the gorge trail between Stewart Avenue and the Johnson Art Museum.

The dog which is believed to be Marley is described as a large breed with curly white and gray/black fur. The dog was leashed and being walked by a man in his 20s when the incident happened.

The risk of rabies infection is likely to be ruled out if the dog remains healthy until Nov. 6., according to the health department.

Anyone with information regarding this dog is urged to call the Environmental Health Division at 274-6688.
